Here’s a pair of red and black pasties I made for a burlesque performer pal. Simple bead and sequin work. I used a dark mauve instead of black beads with black sequins – and in patterns that would have made sense to match the sequin colours – in order to lighten the look and tie the black and red together a bit more. I think it was successful! These pasties are constructed on a light buckram base for strength and backed with flexible glue, so that they are not too stiff or heavy. The backing also holds the double sided tape that keeps them attached really well, which is a very important aspect of this kind of adornment!
The pattern on these pasties is subtle – the performer told me what her act and costuming was going to be so I knew these would need to be interesting in action, not upon contemplation. They needed to catch light in a glimmering way, to be “just enough”, not overwhelming.

inI made this applique then found the perfect colour and size handbag to put it on.The soft green background made it hard to find just the right item to bring out the pastel colour.
When creating the applique, I wanted to experiment with a suspended pendant pearl and I think it turned out really well. The open section of the heart shape is a perfect place for a pearl!
It needed something to pull it and the bag together so I added a little spray of beaded fringe to the bottom of the heart.

inI called this piece “Sand Coloured” because the hues reminded me of a very close-up photo of beach sand, how it is so full of soft multi colours and water worn shapes. The main focus of the piece is the stone rectangles, perpendicular to the opened cuff, with backstitched beads and bugles flowing around the stones. The outside edge of the cuff itself has soft waves, spiral edged with more beads.
The cuff is backed with soft faux suede and closes with two snaps. The snaps keep it in place so nicely, not too tight but not wiggly. This is so comfortable to wear that I forget it is on – until I see it!

This is little handbag that I spiced up with a lovely applique. The appliques is on a very soft green satin background and is embellished with glass beads, sequins, faux pearls and amber crystals. A large teardrop pearl is suspended between the upper lobes of the heart on a beaded strand. A spray of fringe springs from the bottom tip of the heard. A sprinkling of a bronze and amber crystals surround the heart and tie the sage and soft greens together.
