I’ve been away from the blog for a while. Moving and such. Lots of beads to move.
But I have not been idle all this time!
First up, pasties! The official costume of burlesque!
These are made with two types of sequins: large flat checkered holograms and smaller cupped hologram. The beads are gold silver-lined and the smaller sequins are attached with the beaded arch of the gold beads. This make for a huge sparkle, especially as I made sure the surface was completely encrusted – almost double layered, so there would be no space that wasn’t glittery. The outer rims have a looped edging in beads.
The next set of pasties I call “Lilac Lust”. These are also “encrusted” with lots of sequins and some nice fat milky lilac beads for a rich textured look. The detachable tassels on swivel mechanism makes for big twirls!
Next up – “Time Travel” pasties! These were inspired by a theme for our local burlesque show. I wanted them to look a bit like the swirling spiral vortex that was on an old TV show from the 60’s that had something to do with time travel.
I didn’t want black and white, but I needed something so that the spiral would show up – contrast. Blue and white it was. This was fun to do. I have been experimenting with a different kinds of material for the pasties and have found thick interfacing to be really easy to work with. It’s light, flexible but really strong and takes the needle well. Yay!
So that they didn’t get boring, I alternated beads with larger pearls on the “white” arm of the spiral. I like this effect and it helps your eyes go funny, which is the whole point of the theme! I was going to put tassels on these too but I haven’t yet and I’m not sure I will. They look pretty cool as they are.
